Election Day in Lafayette Parish is Nov. 18. Local millage taxes are on the ballot, along with the runoff election for state treasurer.

The local ballot includes voting on:

  • a continuation of the parish courthouse tax;
  • a continuation of the minimum security detention tax; and
  • a rededication of tax dollars to drainage projects, and to arts and tourism in Lafayette Parish.

Students from Dr. Christie Maloyed's Political Science 317 course compiled a Voter's Guide for Lafayette voters. It outlines the local issues that will be presented on the Nov. 18 ballot, and the students have spent the last two months working on the guide.

Voter turnout for this election is expected to be even lower than the 14.3 percent turnout for the October 2017's election. It's the same day as UL Lafayette's Homecoming celebrations and game, so our students want to ensure that all eligible voters remember to #TurnOutBeforeYouTurnUp — go to the polls before you head to the parade or to tailgating!
