POLS Scholarships

TOM AND LENA RITCHIE ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. U.S. Citizen
2. Louisiana resident
3. Senior graduating in Fall, Spring, or Summer
4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
5. Have taken the LSAT
6. Intend to attend law school
7. Any major eligible, but priority consideration to POLS/Pre-Law majors

Award:

 

Up to ten awards of $1,500 each


JOHN B. BREAUX ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. High School graduate entering his/her freshman year
2. Political Science/Pre-Law major
3. A native and resident of Louisiana
4. A Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA

Award:

 

$1,400 annually over two semesters
$700 Fall and $700 spring

Retention:

 

2.5 semester GPA


DR. ROBERT CRISLER/HERBERT M. LEVINE AWARD FOR WRITING
Requirements:

 

1. Awarded to the best paper submitted by a Political Science/Pre-Law student each semester.
2. Professors in the department will submit potential papers from previous semester to a faculty committee for final judgement.

Award:

 

One-time payment of $50


WILLIAM ALBERT MARTIN MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. First-time freshman
2. A U.S. citizen and Louisiana resident
3. Political Science major
4. A 3.0 cumulative GPA
5. Preference given to a graduate of Gueydan High School, thereafter Graduates of Vermilion Parish high schools.

Award:

 

Two awards of $1,400 annually over two semesters; $700 Fall and Spring.

Retention:

 

2.5 semester GPA


EDWIN D. MOUTON AWARD
Requirements:

 

1. Louisiana natives
2. Graduated from a Louisiana high school
3. Junior or senior Political Science/Pre-Law major

Award:

 

One-time payment of $400


THE COLONEL THOMAS RITCHIE MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT AWARD
Requirements:

 

1. Louisiana native who graduated from a Louisiana high school
2. Sophomore with 30-50 semester hours
3. Political Science/Pre-Law major
4. 3.0 cumulative GPA
5. Selection is made on the basis of academic achievements, financial need, initiative, and industry, and contribution to the Political Science program at the university.

Award:

 

$500 annually over two semesters; $250 for the Fall and Spring semester

Retention:

 

3.0 GPA for the Fall semester


JOSEPH ONEBANE MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. U.S. citizen and Louisiana resident
2. Completed sophomore year at UL Lafayette
3. A minimum 3.2 GPA
4. Majoring in Business administration or Political Science or interested in pursuing an education in law and currently majoring in any bachelor degree within the College of Business Administration or the College of Liberal Arts.

Award:

 

Tuition for the Fall and Spring semester

Retention:

 

1. Full time student
2. Earned a 3.0 GPA for the Fall semester


POLICE JURY ASSOCIATION OF LOUISIANA SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. Resident of Louisiana and graduated from a Louisiana high school
2. Good moral character and a worthy grade point average
3. Entering senior year in Political Science, Government, or Social Studies Education.
4. Teach government after graduation

Award:

 

One-time payment of $500


ROY AND HELEN THERIOT MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. Louisiana high school graduate and a first-time freshman
2. U.S. Citizen and Louisiana resident
3. A resident of greater Acadiana area
4. Participating in either UL Lafayette Scholarship Testing Program or Distinguished Freshman Program and plan to major in Political Science/Pre-Law, French or History

Award:

 

$200 annually over two semesters; $100 Fall and Spring

Retention:

 

3.0 GPA during the Fall semester


WALTER R. CRADDOCK ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. Awarded on the basis of academic merit and professional promise
2. Junior or Senior
3. Majoring in Philosophy, History, or Political Science
4. Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA

Award:

 

Award 2 @ $200 annually over two semesters; $100 fall and $100 Spring

Retention:

 

3.0 Fall semester GPA


JOEL L. FLETCHER SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. U.S. citizen
2. Senior in any college
3. 3.2 GPA
4. Financial Aid needed
5. Involvement and Activities

Award:

 

Two awards of $400 for the Spring Semester: One male and one female


G. L. COUSSAN HONOR SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. No more than 30 semester hours
2. Resident of and have attended headstart, kindergarten, elementary, or high school in one of the following parishes: Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermillion

Award:

 

$700 annually over two semesters; $350 for Fall and Spring semester

Retention:

 

2.5 GPA for the Fall semester


A. L. BARCELONA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN LIBERAL ARTS
Requirements:

 

1. Liberal Arts major
2. U.S. citizen
3. Junior or Senior
4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
5. Can be a transfer student

Award:

 

$1000 annually over two semesters; $500 for the Fall and Spring semester

Retention:

 

2.75 GPA for the Fall semester


THE RAY L. BARRY MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Requirements:

 

1. US citizen
2. Entering sophomore, junior, or senior year
3. Liberal Arts major
4. 3.2 cumulative GPA
5. Upper division

Awards:

 

$500 annually over two semesters; $250 for the Fall and Spring semester

Retention:

 

3.0 GPA for the Fall semester
